The Louisiana Motor Transport Association, Inc., founded in 1939, now represents approximately 400 truck, bus and related industry companies throughout Louisiana and the nation. Over the past years, LMTA has vigorously fought to protect and defend the interests of the trucking industry in Baton Rouge and in Washington, D.C. For the past 64 years, LMTA has been recognized as the "voice of the trucking industry" in Louisiana and intend to live up to that honor for many years to come.


The LMTA's publications include the weekly Truck Talk and Legislative Bulletin, an annual Open Road Magazine, and periodic special publications to keep members informed of important issues in the trucking industry.

Cathy F. Gautreaux, Executive Director, lobbies for LMTA during legislative sessions. Ms. Gautreaux edits the Open Road, Truck Talk, and Legislative Bulletin publications. She was formerly national Chairman of the Trucking Association Executive's Council (TAEC).


Other staff of the Louisiana Motor Transport Association (LMTA) includes Dana P. Weidman in Administrative Services, who also coordinates the Highway Watch program for Louisiana, and receptionist Jodie Bell.


The Louisiana Motor Transport Association offers a variety of safety programs including two annual awards: the Safety Professional of the Year Award and the Driver of the Year Award. They also run an Annual Truck Driving Championships to recognize the state's best drivers and send them to represent LMTA at national competitions.


Allen Harrison of Wal-Mart Transportation, LLC won the 2007 Safety Professional of the Year Award.

The 2009 LMTA Driver of the Year was Stacy Sansom of YRC. Members of the Louisiana Motor Transport Association receive legislative representation, LMTA publications, discounted Driver Record Checks, networking through conferences and the Truck Driving Championships, Membership Directory, and discounts from J.J.
